Pinhey’s Point Historic Site

Nestled on the banks of the Ottawa River approximately 40 minutes west of downtown, Pinhey’s Point features a nearly 200-year-old manor house and surrounding ruins and is an Ontario Heritage Trust site.  Scenic views, historic buildings, stone ruins and rolling green hills come together to create one of the most spectacular places in Ottawa to relax, learn, and explore. The site is a popular destination for boaters and cyclists. 

Greenspace

Situated on 88 acres of farmers' fields, shoreline, and parkland, Pinhey's Point is an ideal outing for anyone who loves the outdoors. Pack a picnic lunch and plan on spending an afternoon in the sunshine, on the river, soaking up local history. Wooded areas and areas with tall grasses are also great habitats for ticks. Visit Ottawa Public Health online for more information on preventing tick bites.

Pinhey’s Point Historic Site stands as a testament to upper, and middle, class rural life in the 19^th century. Built in four stages from 1820 to 1849, the Georgian-style house maintains many of its original features, including the imposing entrance and staircase, servants’ quarters, and 1860s wallpaper. The museum is open to the public for the first time since 2023 following building conservation work. Enjoy “As You See It”, a project that invites your feedback to help shape how future visitors experience the stories, objects, and spaces at Pinhey’s Point. 

Note: The museum is a historic house. Due to building standards of the time, not all parts of the museum may be accessible to all. In Time – Father’s Day Challenge 

Sunday, June 15 from 10 am to 5 pm (final entry by 4 pm) 
Cost: $10 per person (plus tax). Pay at the door; credit and debit are accepted. 
Recommended for ages 12 and up.

The clock is ticking. Travel back to the era of the March Township Gentry and work together with family and friends to complete a series of challenges before time runs out or risk changing the course of history forever. 

Live History is a theatre company that specializes in bringing local history to life. This interactive challenge takes approximately 60 minutes to complete and combines elements of escape rooms and live theatre. You’ll work with your group and actors as you explore the museum, solve clues, and complete your assigned task.

• This program is delivered in English. 
• This is a drop-in style program. You are welcome to join the activity at any time during the advertised hours (the activity takes approximately 60 minutes to complete). We recommend beginning the challenge no later than 4 pm.  
• All ages are welcome; best suited to visitors ages 12 and up.

As You See It: Past, Present, and Perspectives

This summer we’re inviting feedback to help shape how future visitors experience the stories, objects, and spaces at Pinhey’s Point Historic Site. We want to know how you best engage with the museum!

On the first floor, interact with “As You See It”, a temporary exhibition testing space where you can share thoughts, stories, and experiences using different styles of displays. Then, as you continue to explore the museum, look for red feedback stations throughout the exhibitions.

This project is presented by the City of Ottawa Museums and Historic Sites with the support of the Pinhey’s Point Foundation.

The artefact collection and permanent exhibitions at Pinhey’s Point Historic Site are the accomplishments of the Pinhey’s Point Foundation, and provide historical context to your visit.
