Pinhey’s Point Historic Site

Nestled on the banks of the Ottawa River approximately 40 minutes west of downtown, Pinhey’s Point features a nearly 200-year-old manor house and surrounding ruins and is an Ontario Heritage Trust site.  Scenic views, historic buildings, stone ruins and rolling green hills come together to create one of the most spectacular places in Ottawa to relax, learn, and explore. The site is a popular destination for boaters and cyclists. 

Greenspace

Situated on 88 acres of farmers' fields, shoreline, and parkland, Pinhey's Point is an ideal outing for anyone who loves the outdoors. Pack a picnic lunch and plan on spending an afternoon in the sunshine, on the river, soaking up local history. Wooded areas and areas with tall grasses are also great habitats for ticks. Visit Ottawa Public Health online for more information on preventing tick bites. 

Wet Felting: Lantern Workshop with Ann McElroy

Saturday, August 22 from 1 pm to 5 pm
Ages 16 and up
Cost: $80.75 plus tax
Advance registration is required. 

Learn the art of felt making in a unique heritage setting at Pinhey's Point Historic Site. Led by Ann from Shepherds' Spring Farm, you will create a thin, translucent cover for a glass lantern filled with fairly lights. Once felted, the cover will glow beautifully from within. This workshop requires no sewing and is beginner friendly. Using loose fluffy wool, silk, and other fibers, participants will create a lantern cover that looks beautiful both with and without the lights on. All materials are included in the cost of registration, including the glass lantern and the fairy lights. The project will be completed during the workshop; however, participants will receive instructions to inspire future projects at home. Light refreshments will be served.

• Advance registration is required. Workshops with insufficient registration may be cancelled. If an alternative cannot be offered, a refund will be issued.

• This workshop is hosted indoors on the ground level of the heritage house at Pinhey's Point. There is a gravel pathway from the parking lot to the house, and two accessible parking spaces are located in the parking lot closest to the museum. Archaeology Day

Date: Sunday, August 2, 2026
Time: 10 am to 3 pm
*Admission to the museum is pay-what-you-can. 

Join members from the Ontario Archaeological Society for a day of engaging activities at Pinhey’s Point Historic Site. Meet archaeologists, take part in a kid-friendly mock excavation, see artefacts that help tell the story of the site, try your hand at piecing together broken ceramics and more. Bonus! From 10 am to noon, check out a special flintknapping demonstration to discover how stone tools were made before metalworking became the norm. This program is delivered by the Ottawa Chapter, Ontario Archaeology Society with support from the Pinhey’s Point Foundation.

• The primary language of delivery for this program is English.
• This is a drop-in program and is open to visitors of all ages. Participants are welcome to join the activities and demonstrations at any time during the advertised hours.
• Activities and demonstrations take place outdoors. Please dress for weather conditions, including footwear appropriate for grass, dirt, gravel and uneven terrain.
• This program is delivered rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, activities and demonstrations may be adjusted or moved inside. 

The artefact collection and permanent exhibitions at Pinhey’s Point Historic Site are the accomplishments of the Pinhey’s Point Foundation, and provide historical context to your visit.

Pinhey’s Point Historic Site features a 19^th century manor house and stone ruins, 88 acres of greenspace, and stunning views of the Ottawa River. The grounds immediately surrounding the house are available for use by rental clients.
